Break My Stride – Matthew Wilder (1984)

Matt Break
       Epic Records A 3908

Matthew Wilder was born Matthew Weiner in New York, USA, in 1953. He is a musician, composer and record producer. In 1978 he moved to Los Angeles, California, and sang for television commercials, and as a backing vocalist for Rickie Lee Jones and Bette Midler.

Written by Greg Prestopino and Matthew Wilder. Produced by Peter Bunetta, Rick Chudacoff, Bill Elliot. It was awarded a silver disc for sales of over 200,000 in the UK. This was an international hit reaching #4 in UK with 12 weeks on the chart. It reached #5 in US, #7 Germany, #8 Austria, #5 The Netherlands, #3 Belgium and New Zealand and topped the Norwegian chart.

The song has been described as Reggae New Wave, however I would class it more of a pop song rather than traditional reggae. In 2014 this track became part of a television advertising campaign in the UK for a coffee maker.

Fan of music. I've been buying records, cassettes, and CD's since the mid 1970's. I'm currently converting some of my vinyl to mp3. Because of this I've been reconnecting with my music collection.
